My own
journey to EFT
My heart and soul are in this work because I
know how devastating high performance anxiety
can be.
Growing up, I used to hide in the choir loft
so I couldn’t be seen while singing a solo. I
hated the limelight and hoped I wouldn’t be noticed
when I was the high scorer in basketball or when
I earned honors in other areas.
Are you one of those people who hides your talents
and accomplishments? Whose knees shake and voice
quails if you have to present a speech or compete
in your sport or ask the boss for a raise? Are
you someone who thinks you just can’t do it (or
do it “well enough”)—whatever “it” is?
Imagine what you could do if you didn’t have
that thought in mind.
How I started working with EFT
When Eye-Movement
Desensitization Re-Processing (EMDR) first
emerged in the 1990s, I recognized the value this
could bring to my counseling clients and I began
training in and using the technique with a passion.
A few years later, when Emotional
Freedom Technique (EFT) was developed, I took an immediate interest
in it as a quicker and more portable method that
clients could learn easily and apply to themselves
to get powerful results.
The first person I used EFT on was myself to
overcome my profound performance anxiety as a
vocalist. I love to sing but it got to the point
where I didn’t know if I wanted to hide or exult
when asked to sing for an event.
But once I knew how to use this modality, I achieved
amazing results. A difficult Vivaldi solo went
beautifully; a composer commented on my improved
confidence and tone, asking what I had done; and
a performance at a National Basketball Association
exhibition came off perfectly. There I stood,
before thousands of people to sing “The Star-Spangled
Banner.” I had used the EFT methods ahead of time
and, instead of feeling the familiar anxiety,
I stayed calm and cool—even though the microphone
didn’t start on time and even though I had to
run a gauntlet of 7-foot giants to the middle
of the court. That performance turned out to be
one of the best I had given up to that point in
my career. I give EFT credit for allowing me to
achieve that.
I feel firsthand the joy of being able to use
my singing gifts more freely. I see the amazing
gifts in each of my clients and believe in their
ability to break through what’s holding them back.
It’s now easy to do, as we apply these cutting-edge
technologies in an artful way. Both my clients
and I express one consistent result:
Joy and Freedom. Come get yours!
